The Present & Future

As an evolving company, Harfords Engine Reconditioning, became 'Harfords Surface Engineering' in the 80's and on to today's Harfords Surface Technologies.

Understanding a path or direction governed by technolgy and clients needs is the only way to ensure competitiveness and longeveity. Harfords understand this all too well and is ever mindfull of new trends and better ways of doing things to keep ahead and remain an idustry leader.

With the advent of new technologies, in 1987 Harfords went on to introduce PTA welding (Plasma Transferred Arc) into W.A - for the purpose of applying Satellite alloys to large valves used in the mining industry and HVOF Thermal Spray, this process used to apply Tungsten Carbide coatings.

Milestones

Over the years HSE introduced Electro-Chemical Metallising to W.A. in order to restore the non intended motion fretting of bearing fits. This process restores the bearing bore size to its original sizeand increased the life of the bearing bore by way of reducing the fretting that occurs between the bearing outer race bearing housing surfaces. A notable advantage of this process is that there is no hydrogen embitterment of the component as is the case with bath plating. The process can restore bearing bores at a lower cost compared to Arc Spray, however cannot be used if the wear is over 6 mils in Diameter.

A robot and a new High Velocity process that uses compressed air instead of oxygen called the Intelli-Jet AC- HVAF, replaced the then 10 year old HVOF process. The HVAF process produces state of the art coatings and the "Intelli-Jet" AC-HVAF system, unlike HVOF systems, is deemed acceptable by the U.S. Air Force to apply turbine blade coatings.

Today & Tommorrow

Now, HST introduce new coatings, Inner Armor, the trade mark of Sub-One INC. who HST has entered into license agreement to bring this revolutionary process to Australia. We have and continue to evolve as a technology leader and a vital part of WA's engineering industry.

As for the future, who can accurately predict what processes we will be using in the decades ahead, but, Harfords will be there, ahead of the curve in R & D determination and implementation, to offer our clients only the best of services.
